Blazing New Trails printing plates consist of illustrations used in George Hoke's book. Artwork was created by four students in the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute School of Applied Art: Franz Wetterings, Edward Henderson, Arthur Sinclair, and Joseph Pierce. Collection contains six printing plates of illustrations for the book "Blazing New Trails: The Biography of a Pioneer in Education" (1937) by George Wilson Hoke. The book traces the institutional history of the Rochester Institute of Technology.

He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1901, before becoming chair of Miami University's new Department of Geography in 1906. However, it appears as though the first African American students entered the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed RIT in 1944) during the early 1900s. For instance, in 1906 Fredericka Sprague, the granddaughter of Frederick Douglass, took classes at the Institute.
